Ben Shewry of Attica to Cook at Manresa


David Kinch welcomes his great friend and colleague Ben Shewry of Attica restaurant in Australia for a series of Cooking with Friends dinners on Saturday, May 12 and Sunday, May 13. Attica is the Restaurant of the Year 2012 and Shewry was named Chef of the Year 2011 in The Age Good Food Guide, Australia's most prestigious restaurant guide. The ten-course collaborative menu is $198. Manresa's Wine & Beverage Director Jeff Bareilles will offer a special selection of wines to complement the menu at $198 for premium wine pairing and $118 for traditional wine pairing. The regular menus will not be available on these two evenings. Seating is limited and reservations are available exclusively by calling Manresa at 408.354.4330. Please note that reservations for the Ben Shewry dinners are not available online.

Celebrate Manresa's Ten Year Anniversary

This July marks Manresa’s ten year anniversary. To celebrate the milestone, David Kinch is turning to colleagues for an exciting week of special menus and guests. The week of July 8, enjoy a different menu Wednesday, Thursday and Friday with celebratory “Cooking with Friends” dinners featuring chefs from around the country. On Saturday and Sunday, David Kinch puts the kitchen in the hands of some of his favorite Manresa chefs, returning for two nights to host an anniversary like no other. Please note that reservations will not be available until an announcement is made in next month’s Manresa Journal. Stay tuned for more information.

» Love Apple Farms debuts its first “Iconic Chefs Dinner” series with Josiah Citrin, two Michelin star chef/owner of Melisse restaurant in Santa Monica, CA on Sunday, May 20 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. An exciting opportunity to enjoy a menu from an acclaimed California chef, this “Iconic Chefs Dinner” will include a special five-course menu served with Love Apple Farms as the backdrop. A favorite among the Los Angeles crowd for its romantic setting, superb service, extensive wine list and attention to detail, Melisse continuously tops lists like Zagat, Gayot and Wine Spectator. » Love Apple Farms’ annual Tomato Plant Sale is in full swing through June 2012, with a new retail space at Ivy’s Porch in Scotts Valley, CA. This year’s seedling sale features thousands of heirloom seedlings for purchase and showcases beautiful display gardens allowing guests to learn how to plant their gardens and incorporate new ideas into their home landscape. The sale runs through Saturday, June 30 from 10:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and 11:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. on Sundays. Ivy’s Porch is located at 5311 Scotts Valley Drive in Scotts Valley.

"Aviation" Cocktail Recipe

Take flight with this classic cocktail in the spirit of the Wright Brothers, Amelia Earheart, and Howard Hughes.

Aviation
1 Luxardo Maraschino cherry
3 drops of Crème Yvette violet liqueur
1 1/2 ounces Aviation gin
1/2 ounce Luxardo Maraschino liqueur
1/2 ounce fresh lemon juice
1 lemon twist garnish

• Place a Luxardo cherry in the bottom of a Martini glass
• With an eyedropper coat the cherry with Crème Yvette liqueur
• In a shaker build together Aviation gin, Luxardo Maraschino liqueur and lemon juice
• Add ice, shake and strain into Martini glass
• Garnish with a lemon twist
